PinWhiz Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 9, 2026

PinWhiz is an iOS Pinboard client provided by Method Six LLC ("Method Six," "we," "us"). This policy explains how PinWhiz handles information in the app, the share extension, subscriptions, diagnostics, the PinWhiz website, and the third-party services PinWhiz can connect to.

Summary

PinWhiz does not operate its own user-account system, and we do not run a server that stores your bookmark library. Your library is stored on your device and syncs with your Pinboard account when you sign in with your Pinboard credentials.

Some information leaves your device when you use network-connected features:

  • Pinboard receives the bookmark, tag, and sync requests needed to operate your Pinboard account.
  • Web pages you choose to save may be fetched so PinWhiz can read the page title and content.
  • If you choose a cloud AI provider, the page address, title, and content are sent to that provider to generate bookmark suggestions.
  • Apple processes purchases, subscriptions, trial eligibility, and restores through StoreKit.
  • A diagnostics service (Sentry) and Apple system reporting may receive crash, error, performance, and diagnostic information used to keep the app reliable.
  • A caching service we operate may load the public Pinboard Popular feed.
  • A favicon service may be used to display site icons.
  • The PinWhiz website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand website traffic and performance.

PinWhiz does not use advertising software, does not sell or share personal information for advertising, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. The PinWhiz app does not use analytics. For that reason it does not request App Tracking Transparency permission.

Our Role

For the limited information Method Six handles directly (such as diagnostics and purchase entitlements), Method Six is the data controller. When you connect PinWhiz to Pinboard or to a cloud AI provider using your own credentials, you have a direct relationship with that service, and that service acts as an independent controller of the information it receives. Method Six does not control how those services retain, log, train on, or otherwise use that information.

Information Stored On Your Device

PinWhiz stores app data locally so it can work offline, including:

  • your bookmarks and their associated content, tags, status, and related metadata, along with a local search index and information used to improve tagging suggestions;
  • app settings and preferences;
  • credentials held in the iOS Keychain, including your Pinboard credentials and any API keys you provide for cloud AI providers;
  • cached files such as site icons, feed data, and temporary export files.

The main app and the share extension share this local data so that saving from the iOS share sheet uses the same settings and credentials as the app.

Pinboard Sync

When you provide your Pinboard credentials, PinWhiz validates them with Pinboard and stores them securely in the iOS Keychain. PinWhiz uses Pinboard's service to read your bookmarks and tags, to add, update, or delete bookmarks, and to access Pinboard's feed features.

Information sent to Pinboard may include a bookmark's address, title, description, tags, status, and the credentials needed to authenticate. Pinboard's own privacy policy and terms govern how Pinboard handles that information.

If you sign out of Pinboard in PinWhiz, the app removes your Pinboard credentials from the Keychain and clears the related bookmark data from your device. This does not delete anything from your Pinboard account; manage or delete remote data through Pinboard.

Share Extension

When you use the PinWhiz share extension, iOS provides the address you selected in another app. PinWhiz reads the page when possible, generates suggestions, shows you a review screen, and saves the bookmark only after you choose to save it. The saved bookmark is stored on your device and queued to sync with Pinboard when credentials and a network connection are available.

Page Reading, Site Icons, And Feeds

When you save or analyze an address, PinWhiz may request that web page directly to read its title and content. As with any web request, the destination website receives standard request information such as your IP address, browser-type information, and the address requested.

PinWhiz may also load site icons from a third-party icon service, load the public Pinboard Popular feed through a caching service we operate (which does not use your Pinboard credentials), and load your personal Pinboard feed using your Pinboard feed credentials.

AI Bookmark Suggestions

PinWhiz can generate suggested bookmark titles, descriptions, and tags. The default option runs on your device using Apple's on-device models and does not require an API key or a network call for the suggestion itself, though reading the page may still contact the website.

If you choose a cloud AI provider, PinWhiz sends the page address, title, content, and prompt instructions to that provider using an API key you supply and store in the Keychain. Method Six does not receive or process that content. The provider's privacy policy and terms govern how it handles the information it receives, including any retention or training. Do not select a cloud provider for pages or bookmark details you do not want sent to that provider.

Purchases, Subscriptions, And Tips

PinWhiz uses Apple's StoreKit for subscriptions, trial eligibility, purchase restoration, and optional tips. Payment information is handled by Apple, not by PinWhiz. We may receive the transaction and subscription details needed to unlock features, restore purchases, and resolve purchase issues. Apple's privacy policy governs your payment information.

Diagnostics And Reliability

PinWhiz uses a diagnostics service and Apple's system reporting to understand crashes, errors, failed requests, performance, and stability. The diagnostics service is configured not to send default personal identifiers, and PinWhiz removes credentials from captured addresses before they are sent.

Diagnostics may include technical information such as app and system version, device model, error details, performance data, and service-generated identifiers. We use this information only to keep the app working and to improve reliability and performance. It is not used for advertising.

Website Analytics

The PinWhiz website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand website traffic and performance, including page-load timing, Core Web Vitals, referrer, and landing-page information. This website analytics is separate from the PinWhiz app; the app does not use analytics.

Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies, local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, or advertising identifiers. It reports website performance data to Cloudflare and is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Support Information

The app includes a user-controlled option to copy basic support information, such as app and system version, device model, and high-level sync status. This is shared only if you choose to send it, and it intentionally excludes your credentials and API keys.

Data Export

Subscriber features include a local export option. Exports are created from data on your device and are shared only where you choose to send or save them. Exports do not include your credentials, API keys, purchase state, or cached page content.

Your Choices And Rights

Because most PinWhiz data is held on your device or by third parties you connect to, you control it directly:

  • To remove PinWhiz data from a device, sign out of Pinboard in the app or uninstall it.
  • To access or delete data held by Pinboard, an AI provider, Apple, or another connected service, use that service's own account or privacy process.
  • For the limited information Method Six handles, you may contact us at the address below. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete that information, and we will respond as applicable law requires.

PinWhiz does not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Security

We store credentials in the iOS Keychain and do not operate a server that holds your bookmark library. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International Users

Some third-party services PinWhiz connects to may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Those services are responsible for the safeguards that apply to information they receive.

Children

PinWhiz is a general-purpose productivity app and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Retention And Deletion

Data on your device remains until you delete it, sign out, or uninstall the app. Third-party services retain information according to their own policies.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this policy. When we make material changes to our data practices, we will update this policy and our App Store privacy disclosures before or with the release that makes the change.

Third-Party Services

Depending on the features you use, PinWhiz may interact with Pinboard, Apple, cloud AI providers you choose (such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and OpenRouter), a diagnostics service, Cloudflare Web Analytics for the website, a caching service we operate, a favicon service, and any websites whose addresses you choose to save or analyze. Each processes information under its own privacy policy and terms, which we do not control.
